From Picture to Print – My first Collection

After two great adventures and thousands of pictures, the time has come, and I’m launching my first print collection. You will find all the details in the following article.

Table of Contents

Overview

The moment the camera display showed the first image of the Milky Way behind the Church of the Good Shepherd in New Zealand (Tekapo), I realized that my camera would accompany me on my travels, wherever they may take me and however high the peaks I may climb.

The time has come to take the next step and present to you my 8 selected images, which will be available for purchase from March 30th 2026, through April 12th 2026:

Since I don’t have a high-quality printer at home, I’m using the print service from saal-digital. This way, you’ll receive an excellent print delivered right to your door.

Print Surfaces

Every surface has different properties. To achieve the best possible result, you need a colour-calibrated monitor and the relevant ICC-profiles. The more surfaces and images you have, the more effort and test prints are required, which is why 8 images is a good place to start.

Paper

Glossy

The standard finish is high-gloss. This paper has a reflective surface and is ideal for posters because it offers high contrast. If you wish to frame your picture behind glass, make sure the glass is anti-reflective! Otherwise, both surfaces will be too reflective.

This happends if you combinde two glossy surfaces

Matte

The second option is matte. Matte has lower contrast and is ideal for images framed in glass. The reflective glass provides the image with the ‘missing’ contrast and the end product has a sophisticated look. With a matte image, the printing process is sometimes more complex, which can result in a slightly higher price.

Hahnemuehle Baryta

The third option is Hahnemuehle Baryta. Baryta is characterised by an iconic paper texture, offering the highest-contrast finish. This texture can give the image a subtle, painted-like appearance. The surface is less reflective than high-gloss, but is still best combined with anti-reflective glass. This print is the most expensive paper option.

Here I am showing 2 of my test prints, but all 8 available images will be printed on paper.

Acrylic

Acrylic printing is characterised by direct printing onto 5mm-thick acrylic glass. This creates a high-contrast, unique sense of depth in the final product. The surface is glossy and no additional glass is required for framing. Ideal for nocturnal photography.

These 4 images are available as acrylic prints.

PVC foam board

The PVC foam board is a ‘modern’ type of canvas. These are particularly well-suited for decorating living spaces and offices, both indoors and outdoors. The direct printing process is highly resistant to light, colour fading and even water. With a standard canvas, the surface is heavily textured and is not ideal for my 8 pictures. The PVC foam board is also textured, but not as heavily, which leaves a better overall impression.

These 3 images are available as PVC foam boards.

GalleryPrint

The GalleryPrint is a special type of acrylic print. The image is printed directly onto acrylic, with an aluminium plate serving as a reinforcing backing. With the GalleryPrint, you benefit from the best qualities of both materials: the image takes on a breath-taking luminosity and sense of depth, whilst also being dimensionally stable and durable. This makes this print format ideal for gallery exhibitions.

It is the most labour-intensive and expensive format available, and for that reason it will only be available for my personal favourite: The Star Trails over Hamnøy (Frozen in Time).

Digital

Not everyone is able to spend a lot of money on decoration. If you appreciate my work and would still like to support me, there is the option to purchase each image digitally as a download. You can then use these as a mobile or computer wallpaper, or in any other way (selling/commercial use is prohibited). You are also free to print the images at home. The digital versions do not include an ICC profile, so there may be variations in quality.

The complete package, containing all images in high resolution, costs €10.

Disclaimer: Only the prints are included; frames, glass, etc. must be purchased separately unless otherwise stated (mounting options)! Furthermore, the prints are only available during the specified period (deadline: 12 April)!

Closing words

It is a privilege to undertake these journeys. Every journey always involves a great deal of preparation. But the moment you finally step off the plane and have a new country at your feet is always a rewarding feeling. Anyone who wants to hold a moment of my travels in their hands now has the chance.

I hope my posts are entertaining and informative. Work on this blog will continue and if all goes well, we’ll meet again in Down Under.
