Nelson

The final rest on my Odyssey through New Zealand. The quiet town of Nelson and another movie set marks the end of my journey.

Nelson

There’s not much to talk about Nelson. The biggest city on the northern South Island, with all the small walks. The city center is really small and you can reach anything within 2km easily by foot. Nelson has a really nice center with all the various coffee shops and the monumental cathedral.

Moreover, you have the chance to visit the Center of New Zealand. It’s a historic point for measurements and navigation, naturally not the true center of New Zealand. A small walk up the hill and if you continue on the ridge you will arrive at the Founders Heritage Park. A short view back into the past for 11.5 NZD. And that’s all I have to talk about New Zealand. It’s a really quiet place, which I really like.

Let’s talk about something completely different for a moment. Fortunately on the 29th of February, the second part from Frank Herbert’s Epos Dune, under the direction of Denis Villeneuve released in cinema. The first part started my interest into the books and for my journey through New Zealand I downloaded the whole saga. It’s an astonishing read and I already started with the 6. and last installment. But let’s return to the movie. If you have the chance, you really have to watch this phenomenon in an IMAX. There’re only 2 cinemas like this in New Zealand which are both on the North Island; sadly no chance for me. The soundtrack and mostly the sound design is absolutely magnificent. A pleasure which you should enjoy to the fullest.

Pelorus River

My first entry was an adventure along the emerald green Soča and an emerald green river will be my final destination, famously know from “The Hobbit”.

Not only does this cycle closs, sadly my weather cycle too. New Zealand started with rain and ends in a monsoon. Because of this unfortunate state the pristine water was transformed into pool of dirt. My journey ends with a heavy disappointment. On the next morning the weather was to unstable.

This is my last blog which will be released in New Zealand. I will write a conclusion and optimize my website back at home. If you want to hear all my tips and know my expenses, you have to wait a bit.

As always, you can view more pictures in the gallery.
