I’m already staying my second week and started working here in Christchurch, my impression so far.

Work
As already mentioned in my last blog, I work as General Labourer at Citycare Water and my task are very similar to a community worker. The only difference, most of the time I’m stationed at a river. On my first week I cut the grass on the banks, plucked pest plants and removed all the pollutions in the river. Not the most exciting work and sadly it’s getting repetitive really fast. I definitely won’t break my leg, but if I will stay sane from this boring task for 3 months is questionable. I knew beforehand that this will be the case after some point, but it’s getting boring to fast sometimes. It is what it is, I still earn more than minimum wage and one of my supervisors is from Germany. He even already offered me another position because I graduated as Electrical Engineering, but sadly don’t have any certificates which would allow me to work under New Zealand Standards. So, this won’t be happening. Well, we will see how it goes.

Weekend
Coincidentally I started working on the week of the Canterbury National Holiday on the 17th of November, therefore I already got an extended weekend. My initial plan was to explore Hagley Park on Friday, but the weather was bad and because of that, I visited the cinema instead. I was extremely surprised from Hoyts EntX, that is my new standard for a cinema. Adjustable leather seats in all auditoriums, a maximum of around 120 visitors and in the most expensive option you get a catering service during the movie. The price is right too and not cash in the trash. We should definitely take a slice from New Zealand in this regard. In the afternoon I snapped some forgotten pictures and on Saturday I was heading to the geothermal baths in Hanmer Springs. It’s a nice little town, but nothing to special.

Plans
Because I want to exchange with people from the same age, I’m currently weighing my option. As far as I’m concerned there are no amateur orchestras or likewise clubs to join, therefore it's not so easy if you’re not into drinking nor the nightlife. Maybe I will visit the gym, attend a dancing class or if I’m lucky get the chance to participate in rehearsal of a professional orchestra. We will see how everything turns out and on the weekends I will explore the nearby activities.
As always, you can view more pictures in the gallery.
